Player Experiences
Julianne Mercer
“As someone who grew up obsessed with Tetris, Project L feels like the sophisticated evolution I never knew I needed. The first time I slotted a level-4 piece perfectly into a black puzzle card to trigger a triple-completion reward, I was hooked on the engine-building aspect. The quality of the recessed 3D cards means your pieces never slide around, which is a massive upgrade over other polyomino games I’ve played. It’s become the most requested game at our weekly tabletop night because the simultaneous play ensures we’re never just sitting around waiting for someone else to finish their turn.”
Elias Thorne
“I originally bought this for the aesthetic appeal of the acrylic pieces, but I stayed for the hidden depth of the Master Action. In my last session, I managed to pivot my strategy midway through, focusing on the white cards to rapidly upgrade my pool of pieces before pivoting to the high-value black puzzles for the win. It’s rare to find a game that scales so perfectly from a solo challenge to a full four-player competitive match without losing its snappy 30-minute playtime. The tactile ‘click’ of the pieces is genuinely addictive and makes every successful puzzle feel like a genuine achievement.”
Marcus Vancamp
“Project L has officially replaced most of our ‘filler’ games because it offers so much more substance for such a quick setup time. My daughter and I have played over twenty sessions, and we are still discovering new ways to optimize our piece upgrades to maximize our actions per turn. The ‘Ghost Piece’ expansion is a must-have if you enjoy a brain-burning challenge, as those level-5 pieces really force you to rethink your spatial layout. It is the perfect blend of a relaxing puzzle and a cutthroat race to the finish line—plus, it looks stunning on the table.”
Project L FAQ
What are the main differences between the White and Black puzzle cards?
White cards are generally easier to complete and focus on giving you immediate rewards, such as higher-level pieces, to help you build your “engine” early in the game. Black cards are more complex and require more pieces to fill, but they offer significantly higher victory points. Strategically, you usually start with white cards to gather resources and shift to black cards in the mid-to-late game to secure your win.
How does the Master Action work?
The Master Action is the most powerful move in the game and can be performed once per turn. It allows you to place up to one piece from your supply onto each of the puzzles currently in front of you. If you have four active puzzles, you could potentially place four pieces using only a single action, making efficiency key to outperforming your opponents.
Can I upgrade a piece to a Level 5 “Ghost Piece” using a standard action?
No, the standard “Upgrade” action only allows you to level up a piece to a maximum of level 4. The only way to obtain Level 5 Ghost Pieces is by completing specific puzzles found in the Ghost Piece Expansion. These pieces are more elaborate and cover more space, providing a unique tactical advantage.
What happens if I can’t finish a puzzle before the game ends?
When the game ends, players perform “Finishing Touches.” You can place any number of pieces from your supply into your unfinished puzzles to complete them. However, for every piece you place during this phase, you must deduct 1 point from your final score. If you still cannot complete a puzzle, it remains worth zero points.
Is the game language-dependent?
Project L is almost entirely language-independent. The puzzle cards and player mats use intuitive icons and shapes rather than text. Once you have learned the rules from the manual (available in multiple languages), players of any language can play together without difficulty.
